Reiki Session Styles

Traditional Reiki Sessions

Reiki sessions/lessons are approximately 60 to 90 minutes in length, and are performed with you lying on a comfortable massage table, fully clothed except for shoes. Reiki promotes profound relaxation, and also emotional and spiritual peace. Reiki balances and strengthens the life force energy, or chi by reducing blocks to energy flow through the body’s meridian system. The meridians are the network of chi energy pathways in the body. Reiki also helps to clear areas of excess or stagnation of chi, which may contribute to stress. Reiki also assists with helping an individual draw in chi energy when deficient. This chi is not from the practitioner, but is through the practitioner, and comes from the universal chi, which permeates all of life. Reiki without acupressure involves very light touch only. This touch is in the form of sustained, two to three minute hand positions on specific points along the meridian pathways of the body. These sessions are also referred to as “lessons” because, over time, the client acquires a greater energy awareness in the body and beyond. As a result of this, old patterns and blockages have a greater potential of being changed in accordance with the client’s will.

Integrated Reiki Acupressure Lessons

This session style combines Reiki with acupressure for times when deeper clearing and chi (life force energy) toning is needed, as in instances of long-term stress, or trauma due to sudden life changes. Acupressure is a technique where specific points along meridian pathways are briefly stimulated with moderate to deep pressure for greater movement and opening of chi.

For First Time Clients

It is best to dress comfortably for a Reiki session, preferably in clothing made with natural fibers. At your first session, there will be an intake interview which includes an energy assessment to determine the best course of action, and session style. This also helps the practitioner and client to get to know each other in order to establish a collaborative partnership. As the saying goes, “Rome was not built in a day,” so it is good to give yourself time to rebalance and achieve your aims. Three sessions in close proximity, such as a week apart, is recommended in the beginning to see how your process is coming along, and to build momentum for change. Many choose to do sessions monthly after an initial intensive series in order to help maintain an optimum energy state. Good health practices are strongly recommended for all clients, such as proper diet, rest, and exercise. Clients have a tendency to spot the personal patterns that they wish to change with greater clarity while receiving Reiki, and are encouraged to act on their insights. As is true with massage, drinking extra water is very strongly recommended after Reiki and acupressure sessions to help the body process any release of toxins that may occur.
